Bidding to start for £47m rebuild of Berwick Academy

Northumberland County Council has launched market engagement for the £47m rebuild of Berwick Academy, with contractors invited to attend supplier sessions next week.

The proposed scheme will deliver replacement buildings on the existing site using traditional build methods, alongside a new SEND unit, refurbished hockey pitch, and a new 3G sports facility. Existing buildings will be demolished once the new structures are complete.

Construction is set to run from September 2026 to August 2028, targeting an opening date for the new school in September 2028.

The council will use the engagement sessions to test delivery models and gather contractor feedback before finalising its procurement strategy ahead of a two-stage tender launch on 1 December.

The market event will take place at West Hartford Fire Station on Wednesday 22 October, with a presentation followed by one-to-one supplier sessions exploring innovation, social value, and contract form preferences (JCT or NEC). Email details to council.
