The University of East London has handed Graham the £45m job to deliver its New Academic Building that forms the centrepiece of a wider £170m Stratford Health Campus redevelopment.
The win marks UEL’s biggest capital project to date as it pushes ahead with its Vision 2028 strategy to expand medical and healthcare training across east London.
The New Academic Building will house teaching, learning and research spaces and, subject to General Medical Council approval, will become home to new medical education courses.
Work is due to start in early 2026 with completion in summer 2027 ready for the new academic year.
Pat O’Hare, Regional Director at Graham, said that the builing was targeting BREEAM Outstanding.
Designs include cross-laminated timber, low-carbon construction methods, circular design principles, on-site renewables and intelligent building systems to drive down emissions and operational energy demand.
The wider campus scheme will see a student accommodation village built in 2027 fproviding 677 bed spaces.
