Reinventing Material Handling: TIL’s Strategic Showcase at EXCON 2025

Alok Tripathi, President, TIL Limited

Excon 2025 serves as a powerful platform for industry collaboration and innovation. How is your company leveraging Excon to showcase its latest technologies, launches, or strategic initiatives shaping the future of construction equipment?

EXCON 2025 marks a pivotal moment for TIL Limited as we unveil a comprehensive product expansion strategy that positions us firmly as an engineering solutions provider, offering equipment tailored to India’s unique infrastructure challenges. This year, we are showcasing three breakthrough material-handling products that represent significant innovations in their respective categories. Our headline launch is an all-new, fully patented pick-and-carry-on-deck crane with a 15-tonne capacity at 2.5-metre radius, engineered with a holistic understanding of modern job-site challenges and an unwavering focus on safety—a philosophy that defines TIL 2.0.

Next, with an 85-ton model, we are re-entering the truck crane segment where we once held 70-80% market leadership, now with competitive pricing and enhanced features designed to reclaim our position.

The third product is a rough-terrain empty container handler developed specifically for demanding terrain and weather, capable of operating on unpaved ground—a critical requirement that addresses a genuine market gap in safety, efficiency, and capability.

These launches represent the beginning of a journey that will see TIL expanding beyond its existing portfolio, with higher-capacity variants and additional feature enhancements already in development. For us, EXCON is not merely a branding platform but a business-conversion opportunity where we demonstrate our re-energised portfolio and reaffirm our role as a trusted partner in India’s infrastructure growth story.

With sustainability as a central theme at Excon 2025, how is your organization embedding eco-friendly design, cleaner fuels, or energy-efficient solutions across its product portfolio?

Sustainability is embedded in our design philosophy and manufacturing operations. Our new crane models run on BS-V (CEV) compliant engines, delivering better fuel efficiency and significantly lower exhaust emissions while supporting India’s environmental goals. In our Kharagpur facility, we have installed a 1 MW solar power plant that fulfills almost 90% of the plant’s power demand, demonstrating our commitment to cleaner manufacturing. We have also initiated ESG-linked initiatives to minimise environmental impact across operations.

Our focus on durable engineering ensures machines built for long service life and high resale value, reducing the frequency of replacement and associated resource consumption. Progressive indigenisation and localised manufacturing further shorten supply chains and reduce the carbon footprint associated with logistics. Looking ahead, we are exploring potential electric and hybrid variants for select equipment categories where the technology offers clear value—targeting zero-exhaust operation, lower operating costs, and quieter performance in urban and industrial environments. Decarbonization is not a one-time project for us; it is an ongoing, technology-led transition that aligns naturally with TIL’s long-term focus on engineering efficiency, reliability, and sustainable growth.

Excon continues to spotlight the digital transformation of the CE sector. How is your company integrating IoT, AI, or automation technologies to enhance equipment intelligence, performance, and safety?

Digital transformation is central to how we deliver value to customers today. We are progressively integrating telematics and remote monitoring across select product categories, enabling us to track machine health, predict failures, and schedule maintenance before downtime occurs. This predictive maintenance approach will help customers maximise equipment availability and lifecycle value while reducing unnecessary part replacements and resource consumption.

We will upgrade our digital platforms to enable real-time inventory visibility and faster order processing for spare parts, giving customers direct access to what they need, when they need it. Advanced hydraulics, improved load-sensing systems, and ergonomic cabins enhance both operator efficiency and safety, while IoT integration and AI-driven analytics support equipment optimization across the lifecycle. These technological improvements are not implemented for their own sake—they translate into tangible customer benefits: enhanced uptime, lower total cost of ownership, and operations optimized for India’s terrain, climate, and working conditions.

Skill development and after-sales excellence are recurring themes at Excon. What steps is your company taking to strengthen operator training, service networks, and customer support to ensure long-term reliability?

After-sales excellence is fundamental to TIL’s value proposition. We recognize that the best equipment must be backed by the best support, and true value is delivered only when customers experience consistent uptime, even at remote project sites. We have invested heavily in building one of the most preferred service networks in the sector, supported by trained, skilled, and highly competitive technicians who can diagnose and fix issues quickly. Our pan-India presence through regional offices in Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi ensures comprehensive coverage.

We are expanding parts depots, upgrading digital systems for faster order processing, and strengthening our rebuild center to allow customers to extend equipment life through structured overhauls and certified refurbishments. Our field force expansion and enhanced training programs ensure that customers receive expert support wherever their equipment is deployed. The goal is straightforward: reduce operating costs, eliminate unnecessary downtime, and help customers maximize profitability through reliable support and uninterrupted performance.

As Excon 2025 highlights India’s expanding infrastructure beyond metros, what demand trends do you observe in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, and how are you tailoring your machines to suit those evolving markets?

India’s infrastructure story is unfolding across multiple dimensions simultaneously, creating demand across the entire equipment spectrum. While mega projects drive demand for heavy-duty equipment, what’s equally compelling is the growing requirement for mid-sized, versatile equipment serving India’s diverse project landscape—from industrial projects and logistics yards to mining operations and smaller construction sites.

The pick-and-carry crane segment, with an annual market size of 14,000-15,000 units, is substantially larger than the truck crane market precisely because these machines serve wider applications across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. we are launching the world’s first rough terrain empty container ReachStacker suitable for paved or unprepared ground and it offers exceptional manoeuvrability with all wheel drive & steer features, superior stability, visibility, and operator comfort— maximizing uptime and reducing operating costs.

Our product strategy reflects this reality—equipment designed for Indian conditions, including unpaved terrain, varied applications, and the need for mobility without excessive scale or cost. Our manufacturing footprint in Kamarhati and Kharagpur in Eastern India, combined with progressive indigenization efforts, positions us to serve these emerging markets effectively while supporting indigenous manufacturing capability.

With Excon promoting inclusivity and accessibility in equipment ownership, are you exploring innovative financing or leasing models to help contractors and SMEs adopt advanced machinery more easily?

We are strengthening our aftermarket business with trade-in offerings, certified refurbished equipment, and rental solutions to provide customers with more cost-efficient, flexible ownership options. Our rebuild programs allow contractors to access high-quality equipment at lower capital investment, while rental and used equipment offerings enable asset-light solutions for project-based requirements. Service contracts and long-term maintenance agreements deepen our customer engagement while delivering predictable uptime.

As EXCON 2025 brings together the construction equipment ecosystem, TIL reaffirms its commitment to evolving as a true engineering solutions provider—one that stands for safety, reliability, and sustainability, powered by India-made, technologically advanced, and service-backed equipment solutions that contribute to building a stronger infrastructure ecosystem for the country.
